This week we have to re-visit some things we were unable to talk about last week, because of Jim's car breaking down and the canceled class last Thursday.
On Tuesday, Jim returned drafts of unit outlines with some feedback. We walked through the key design elements with prompts chart on page 57 of UBD. Our goal was to simply see how the first phase of the design process (identifying desired results) includes different steps that are interrelated.
Established goals
What understandings are desired? (students will understand that ... about content/theme of unit)
What essential questions will be considered?
What key knowledge and skills will students acquire as a result of this unit?
Using a unit based on "networks" as an example
On Thursday, we each worked on chart paper to sketch out our units and we used the prompts from page 57 to guide our work ...
Example packet we'll create for the book club discussions next week.
What understandings are desired? (understandings = propositions)
Essential Questions (different types of questions that work together as a set - page 116) Intent and Scope
Knowledge and Skills
Thinking like an assessor - page 150
Problem vs. exercises - page 155
crafting problems = GRASPS - page 157
